Bertens looks to Hobart tennis finals

Hobart International tennis top-seed Kiki Bertens is expected to confirm her quarter-finals place when she meets lowly-ranked challenger Galina Voskoboeva.

The world No.22 on Wednesday meets 310-ranked Voskoboeva from Kazakhstan to decide who progresses to the final eight.

Bertens found doubles success in Auckland but was a first-round singles loser and is keen for match practice heading into the Australian Open.

“It’s good to have some singles matches before going to Melbourne,” the Netherlands player said.

Overnight, Queensland teenager Lizette Cabrera was eliminated from the tournament, beaten 6-1 6-3 by qualifier Jana Fett.

The Croatian is due to next meet Paraguay’s Veronica Cepede Royg, who was called into the main draw to fill a gap, despite failing to qualify.

Day four action will also include a clash between world No.62 Lucie Safarova and Japanese qualifier Risa Ozaki.

Sweden’s Johanna Larsson later takes on Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko.

The evening match will be between American world No.57 Shelby Rogers and Spaniard Lara Arruabarrena, who is ranked seven places lower than her challenger and hasn’t had a main draw win in Hobart since 2013.
