Punters at Sportingbet Australia continue to rally behind Bernard Tomic to win the Australian Open and have slashed the 20 year old’s odds from $201 last October to his current price of $26.
“It’s been a significant plunge and Tomic is by far and away the best backed player in the men’s draw with us,” Sportingbet.com.au spokesman Andrew Brown said.
“Even before his victory at the Sydney International he had been incredibly well supported with one punter backing him to win nearly $100,000,” Brown said.
“He’s got a remarkable record in Australia as a professional which is why many of our punters think he’ll go the distance in Melbourne.”
Tomic was a $34 chance to win the Australian Open before he won his first ATP title at the Sydney International last night but punters immediately backed him into $26 following his breakthrough victory.
Lleyton Hewitt was backed from $201 into $151 after his victory at the Kooyong Classic. Novak Djokovic remains a solid $1.90 favourite ahead of Andy Murray at $3.50 and Roger Federer at $5.50.
Serena Williams continues to attract heavy support to win the women’s tournament.
“We took one bet of $100,000 on Serena to win at odds of $2 and she’s now a clear cut $1.75 favourite,” Brown said.
