Bedene through to second round in Istanbul

Aljaz Bedene has battled past Marton Fucsovics to join Australian duo Bernard Tomic and Jordan Thompson in the second round of the Istanbul Open.

The British number four climbed to 58 in the world rankings this week on the back of a run to the final of the Hungarian Open.

Defeat to Lucas Pouille ended a 16-match winning streak, but Bedene headed straight to Turkey where he ground out a 7-6 (3) 4-6 6-4 victory over Hungarian qualifier Fucsovics.

It took two hours and 48 minutes, with Bedene securing the win when he broke serve in the final game of the match.

The 27-year-old will take on top seed Milos Raonic, who has played only one match since February because of injury, in the second round.
