From 128 starters, the two women left to battle for the Australian Open crown will be decided on Rod Laver Arena on Thursday.

Canadian teen sensation Eugenie Bouchard and Chinese veteran Li Na are in the first semi-final on court followed by Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska up against Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova.

The elimination of defending champion Victoria Azarenka at the hands of Radwanska ensured that this year’s Open will end with a first-time female winner.

Li’s 2011 French Open crown is the only major title won by any of the four semi-finalists.

It is also the first time since 1997 that none of the top three women’s seeds have made it through to the last four at Melbourne Park.

Radwanska, whose previous best result was a semi-final appearance at Wimbledon, has had a long playing history against Cibulkova.

The pair are both 24 and started their rivalry in the under-nine events.

“We played so many tournaments together when we were kids,” Radwanska said.

“It’s always tricky to play someone that you know for so long and play so many times.

Czech Tomas Berdych or Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka will be the first man into the Open final with their semi-final the headline match in the night session.

The other semi-final, between world No.1 Rafael Nadal and four-time champion Roger Federer will be played on Friday.

South Australian teenager Brad Mousley will be out to book his own semi-final appearance when he takes on ninth-seeded Pole Kamil Majchrzak in the Open boys’ singles.

Queenslander Kimberly Birrell, who is just 15, faces Russian 10th seed Anastasiya Komardina in one of the girls’ quarter-finals.

Mousley must back up after his singles to play a doubles quarter-final, teaming with Austrian Lucas Miedler against Spanish duo Pedro Martinez Portero and Jaume Antoni Munar Clar.

Mousley, 18, won the title last year with fellow Australian Jay Andrijic.
