Having tried her hand at cricket, Australia’s former Wimbledon junior champion Ashleigh Barty will have a second crack at a professional tennis career.
Barty quit tennis 17 months ago after struggling to deal with the demands of the sport.
She spent the 2015-16 season playing cricket with the Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League.
“If it works, great. If it doesn’t, I can’t really complain. I’ve had a phenomenal career for the short time that I did play,” the 19-year-old Barty told the Women’s Tennis Association website of her decision to return to her first sporting love.
