An Ash Barty victory at the Australian Open tonight won’t just be a huge result for Tennis in this country but also for punters with the Aussie star one of the heaviest backed favourites in the tournament’s history with TAB.
Barty commands over 60 percent of the hold in TAB’s Women’s Aus Open Winner market which takes in to account futures betting, compared to tonight’s opponent Danielle Collins who has only 1.5 per cent.
The world number one opened at $8 last year to win her home slam before tightening to $3.75 prior to her opening round match and is now $1.18 to finish the job in the Head-to-Head market. Collins is considered a rank outsider at $5, having drifted from $4.75.
Barty is the shortest priced Australian Open female finalist since Serena Williams started at $1.13 against Angelique Kerber in 2016.
While many punters are set to cash in if the Aussie claims her third Grand Slam, particularly the large amount who have Barty anchoring multis, one punter is already more than $110,000 richer after successfully backing Barty and Rafael Nadal to reach their respective Finals, after a $60,000 outlay.
Nadal ($2.45) will start underdog, however, against Russia’s Daniil Medvedev ($1.57) in the Men’s Final on Sunday evening.
