Teenage talent Destanee Aiava has been awarded a wildcard into this month’s Australian Open main draw.
The Melbourne-born, Sydney-based 18-year-old almost snatched the opening set off world No.1 Simona Halep on her Open debut in 2018 before eventually falling 7-6 (7-5) 6-1.
Aiava on Friday also received a wildcard into qualifying for next week’s Sydney International.
