West Brom youngster could make EPL history

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Isaiah Brown will become the youngest player to feature in a Premier League match if he is given his debut in Saturday’s match against Chelsea.

At 16 years and 54 days, Brown would beat the current record – held by Fulham left-back Matthew Briggs since 2007 – by 11 days.

West Brom took the England under-17 international out of school, where he is preparing to take exams, to train with the squad this week after injuries to several players.

Manager Steve Clarke said Brown had been included in the travelling party for the match at Stamford Bridge and has a chance of being among the substitutes.

Brown would be West Brom’s second youngest debutant. Frank Hodgetts was 16 years, 26 days when he played against Notts Country in 1940.
