When: 15:05 | Sunday 08/10/2017

Where: Westpac Stadium

Preview:

The Reds are the dark horse of the competition. On the back of some positive signs in the pre-season, progression through the FFA Cup and a new coach, Adelaide are looking like a good chance for an opening upset at Westpac Stadium.

The Phoenix are without Michael McGlinchey, Thomas Doyle and Andrew Durante for their opening match. We are yet to see how the loss of Bonevacia and Barbarouses will impact Wellington in attack.

Adelaide have been so up and down the past couple of seasons that punters will want to see some consistently. The Reds have either been at the very top or bottom of the table and whilst all signs point to an improvement it will take some time before they earn that trust.

FINAL SAY: The benefit for Adelaide United is that they have played lots of high intensity football before the season started and will hit the Phoenix hard if they are not match fit. Wellington is hardly a fortress for the Phoenix and they are not at full strength with players travelling with the All Whites in Japan.
