United’s Macheda fined for anti-gay slur

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has been fined STG15,000 ($A22,000) by the English Football Association for making a homophobic comment on Twitter.

Macheda, on loan at Queens Park Rangers, was found guilty of using “an abusive and/or insulting word including a reference to a person’s sexual orientation”.

West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison was fined STG7000 ($A10,000) two weeks ago for a similar offence.
