Teenage winger gets Football Ferns call-up

Uncapped winger Holly Patterson has been called into the New Zealand women’s soccer squad to face the United States after injury ruled striker Emma Kete out of the trip.

Canberra United’s Kete picked up an ankle injury at training last week to give Patterson, 17, her chance.

Patterson featured for the Young Football Ferns at the under-17 World Cup in 2010 and is one of only two players in the squad yet to play for the senior side.

The Football Ferns play USA at Frisco in Texas on Sunday morning (NZT).
