Aston Villa midfielder Chris Herd has been released from hospital but the Australian is yet to be declared fit for Sunday’s match against English Premier League leaders Manchester United.
Herd spent a night under observation for a head injury suffered during Villa’s 1-1 draw with Stoke City.
With just two minutes remaining in Monday’s match at Villa Park, the Perth 23-year old clashed heads with Stoke goal-scorer Robert Huth in the home team’s penalty box.
Herd landed head-first on the turf where teammate James Collins made matters worse by unintentionally falling on top of the grounded Socceroo.
After receiving treatment on the field, Herd was stretchered off and taken to hospital by ambulance feeling “sick” but remaining conscious, said Villa manager Alex McLeish.
At about 10am (local time) Tuesday Herd posted on Twitter: “Feeling much better this morning!!!”.
A club spokesman later confirmed Herd’s release from hospital, but there is no word if he will be deemed fit for Sunday’s match against League table leaders Manchester United.
Along with Herd, a question mark hangs over the fitness of Villa defender Stephen Warnock who rolled an ankle in Monday’s match and is awaiting x-ray results.
