Ryan to train with EPL club Tottenham

Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan’s immense potential has been recognised by English Premier League club Tottenham, who have invited the 20-year-old to train with them.

Central Coast custodian Ryan will have a week to impress new Spurs coach Andre Villas-Boas in August, however the A-League side insist they have had no discussions about a permanent move to London.

Ryan, named the A-League’s best keeper in the 2011-12 season, has a season remaining on his contract.

He was drafted into the national squad for the first time in February when the Socceroos met Saudi Arabia in a World Cup qualifying dead rubber.

“It is a magnificent opportunity and experience for Mathew to have a look at a top Premier League club,” Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull said.

“Tottenham move into their new training facility on the first of August so it will be a great experience for him.

“I think it is reflective of Mathew’s standing in the game.

“He has stature, he deservedly won a number of awards last season and has already been picked as Mark Schwarzer’s understudy for the Socceroos – he is a guy who is sought after.”

Ryan will depart for England on August 2.
