Roma’s Juan sidelined for six weeks

Roma will be without defender Juan for six to seven weeks after confirming the Brazilian has suffered a second-degree medial knee ligament injury.

The 33-year-old was forced off during the second half of his side’s 2-1 defeat to derby rivals Lazio on Sunday and will be absent until late April after scans revealed the severity of the injury.

A statement on the club’s website, asroma.it, confirmed on Monday: “Juan Silveira Dos Santos underwent an MRI this morning for his right knee, which showed a second-degree injury of the medial collateral ligament.

“He is expected to be sidelined for approximately 45-50 days and will shortly begin physical therapy.”

That timescale would leave Juan’s participation in doubt for April 22’s clash with Juventus, though the club will hope to have him available for the last four games of the season, starting against Napoli on April 29.
