Roma’s injured Juan out for season

Roma’s Brazilian defender Juan is likely to miss the remainder of the Serie A season after a knee injury suffered at the weekend, the Rome club says.

Juan, 33, will have treatment of a damaged ligament in his right knee.

His recovery is expected to last for up to 50 days and it’s unlikely he’ll be fit by the league’s end on May 13.

The defender left the pitch in the second half of a city derby that 10-man Roma lost 2-1 against Lazio on Sunday.

He was the target of racial abuse from Lazio fans, leading to a fine of 20,000 euros ($A28,873).

Second-placed Juventus also had their defence weakened by muscular injuries suffered by internationals Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli.

Juve said that Chiellini is due back in 10 days, with about 20 days needed for Barzagli’s recovery.
