Relegation trouble for QPR and Reading

Reading and Queens Park Rangers look doomed to relegation from the Premier League after both suffered defeats on Saturday.

Bottom side Reading were beaten 2-1 at Norwich while QPR, second-bottom on goal difference, lost 2-0 at home to Stoke, who earned themselves a crucial win.

With four games to go, both teams are 10 points from safety and need something close to a miracle to avoid the drop.

Ryan Bennett and Elliott Bennett scored the goals as Reading lost at Norwich while Peter Crouch and Jon Walters put another nail in QPR’s coffin with victory for Stoke at Loftus Road.

Wigan remained third-bottom after a 2-0 defeat at West Ham, leaving them still three points behind Aston Villa, who play leaders Manchester United on Monday night.

Sunderland moved level with Stoke, six points above the relegation zone, thanks to a 1-0 win over sixth-placed Everton, with Stephane Sessegnon scoring the only goal.

Arsenal moved up to third place with a 1-0 win at Fulham, where Per Mertesacker found the only goal.

Newcastle slipped below Stoke and Sunderland on goal difference after a 1-1 draw at West Brom while Swansea and Southampton drew 0-0 in the day’s other match.

Second-placed Manchester City are away to Tottenham on Sunday while fourth-placed Chelsea travel to Liverpool.
