New Zealand captain Winston Reid has extended his stay at English Premier League club West Ham by a further two years.
Reid, 24, will stay at the London club until at least 2015 after the club offered him a new contract in the wake of an impressive season.
“I’ve really enjoyed being here,” he told the club’s official website.
“I think I have played some good football over the last two years but that goes for the whole team as well. Hopefully we can continue that.”
Reid assumed the All Whites captaincy this year from the retired Ryan Nelsen and has also been captain for West Ham in some fixtures this season.
He has played in 33 of their 35 Premier League games, forming an impressive partnership in the heart of the defence with James Collins for the Hammers, who are 10th out of 20 teams with three games remaining.
Reid moved to London in August 2010 after growing up in Denmark and playing five seasons for FC Midtjylland.
His new deal takes the defender up until the club’s penultimate season at Upton Park before they move to their new home at the Olympic Stadium from 2016/17.
He is already excited about the prospect of playing at the 54,000-capacity ground if he can stay longer at West Ham.
“It is an exciting time for the club,” he said.
“Even though it is three years down the road, they (the fans) are already looking forward to seeing what can be done when we move there.”
