PSV on top after beating De Graafschap

Dries Mertens converted a first-half penalty as PSV Eindhoven returned to the Dutch league summit by beating De Graafschap 4-1.

Mertens netted his 15th goal of the season in the 8th minute thanks to a penalty being awarded after he was fouled by Vito Wormgoor in the area.

Ola Toivonen headed in Jeremain Lens’s cross in the 26th to double the lead.

Tim Matavz then scored the third with a solo effort three minutes later before Lens added another in the 43rd. Gil Vermouth replied with a goal in the 52nd for De Graafschap.

PSV jointly leads the standings with AZ Alkmaar on 45 points.
