Polish army to be on alert during Euro

The Polish army will be on heightened alert during this summer’s Euro 2012 football championships, the daily Gazeta Wyborcza reported on Wednesday.

Air space will be closed on game days over the respective Polish host cities, the newspaper reported citing military officials.

Land and air forces will also be on heightened alert, the daily said.

Training exercises in April will involve the military, police and security agencies playing out scenarios including a terrorist attack.

The championships, which Poland is co-hosting with Ukraine, will kick off on June 8 in Warsaw. The final will be on July 1 in Kiev.
