Preview:

The Perth Glory take on the Melbourne Victory on Saturday, 9.30pm at nib Stadium.  Surprisingly, this looks like one of the tightest match-ups of the round, with the Victory missing a number of key players through suspension and injury.  Saying that, however, the Victory easily managed to beat the Mariners recently and will be well aware that a victory here could spring them into second ladder position.

The Glory are currently sitting at the bottom of the ladder, and will be without Shane Smeltz due to injury this weekend.  While they are definitely in with a chance if they can take advantage of what is a weakened Melbourne Victory side, Perth will have to fix up their dodgy defence to be in with any kind of chance.

News:

Adelaide United has announced that forward Ryan Griffiths has been transferred to Malaysian Super League club Football Association of Sarawak.

Griffiths, who has struggled for game time recently due to shin soreness and then a bout of concussion, will join the Malaysian club this week.

Reds Football Director Michael Petrillo said the club did not want to deny Griffiths a great opportunity and after a short period of negotiation, terms were agreed to.

“It was a difficult decision to release Ryan as it’s not a great time to lose a player with only five games remaining and still competing to make the finals, particularly now we are outside of the transfer window period,” Petrillo said.

“However, he received a very good two year offer from Sarawak and we were not in a position right now to offer him a contract extension due to his lack of recent game time.

“Therefore the club did not want to stand in his way and we were able to quickly negotiate a transfer agreement with Sarawak that we were all comfortable with. We wish Ryan all the best in Malaysia with his new club.”

Griffiths scored one goal from four games, all of which were off the bench, for the Reds during his Adelaide stint.
