No new England coach until May

The English Football Association will refrain from approaching any coaches about the vacant national team job until the “back end” of the Premier League season.

The Premier League ends on May 13, about a month before the start of the European Championship.

While Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is the leading contender to replace Fabio Capello, FA general secretary Alex Horne says there is more than one name on the short list.

Horne says: “A lot of the managers on the list are employed, and we don’t want to interrupt anyone’s season.”

Horne is on the four-man board that will hire the coach and says a decision is expected at the “back end of the season.”

Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce is in temporary charge.
