Munich Olympic stadium for women’s final

UEFA says the women’s Champions League final will be played at the 70,000-capacity Olympic Stadium in Munich on May 17.

The match is scheduled two days before Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena stages the men’s Champions League final.

Last year, Fulham’s 25,000-capacity Craven Cottage stadium in London staged the women’s European final. A crowd of 14,303 saw Lyon beat Turbine Pottsdam 2-0.

UEFA has named German great Steffi Jones, who headed the 2011 Women’s World Cup organising committee, as ambassador for the match.

The Olympic Stadium was built for the 1972 Summer Games.

It has staged three European Cup or Champions League finals, plus the 1974 World Cup final and 1988 European Championship final.
