We attended both Melbourne games last weekend and both teams struggled to piece together fluid passages of football. City were rusty against the Roar and the only thing that separated the two teams were a missed chance early for Brisbane and two moments of excellence from Bruce Kamau.
The Victory were severely depleted against Sydney and still managed to keep them locked down except for a single mistake by the returning Thomas Deng who conceded an own goal. Other than that the game was a battle between two solid defences. When the Victory has their midfield back they will defeat Sydney at least once this year.
Leroy George (Victory) showed some really promising signs for Victory and he will be better for the run and at full fitness will be one of the recruits of the season.
FINAL SAY: You could have been forgiven for thinking someone had died at the Victory game on Saturday night with the crowd observing 90 minutes of silence. The small bay of Sydney fans drowned out the crowd for the majority of the night. Etihad Stadium is a truly horrible, cavernous place to watch football.
