Preview:
Brisbane Roar weren’t in the finals conversation at the start of the year but after scraping home in the 6th and final playoff sport, the Roar are ready to make their presence felt.
John Aloisi’s men qualified for the finals after the Western Sydney Wanderers went down to Adelaide United 3-2 in the final game of the regular season, consigning them to 7th position.
City had the third seed sealed before their 2-1 loss to the Wellington Phoenix but we’ll see a different team for this elimination final.
Melbourne City leads the series 10-5-9 since 2010 and have won 2 of the past 3 but the Roar have drawn 2 of the last 3 in Melbourne.
At AAMI Park, City are 14-5-9 over the last two seasons while the Roar are 10-8-10 away over the same period.
City have a 5-0-4 (55.6 percent) record after losing as a favourite in the A-League since 2016/17.
Brisbane are 23-78 (22.8 percent) as an away team in the “W/W (Half-time/Full-time)” market in A-League matches since 2011/12.
The Verdict
Despite last week’s loss to the Phoenix, City are brimming with confidence after achieving their highest finish to the regular season which earns them qualification for the Asian Champions League.
Uruguayan striker Bruno Fornaroli is City’s major weapon up forward and the City talisman will look to continue his goal-scoring run.
Henrique and the Roar though, can’t be underestimated and with 7 wins in their last 11, they’re a team at the top of their game.
Aloisi’s men also hold no fears playing away from home and have beaten both Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory away from home this season.
