Melbourne City bolt into 2014/15 A-League Premiership favouritism

Melbourne City have bolted into favouritism with online bookmaker sportsbet to be the next A-League champion on the back of news that Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer, Frank Lampard, is set to join David Villa and Damien Duff Down Under.

Originally priced at $6.00, City are now the outright favourites at $4.50, ahead of last year’s winners Brisbane Roar ($5.00), cross town rivals Melbourne Victory ($6.00) and the Western Sydney Wanderers ($7.00).

Punters seem to agree that City are the team to beat, with more money for them than any other team. Surprisingly, Sydney FC are the next best backed at $10.

“The big names keep coming for City and each time their price firms. They look to be a completely different team to last year, and at the moment they are the only ones punters want to be on,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson.
