Manchester United held onto fifth spot after Fernandes’ 81st-minute penalty snaffled a 1-all draw at Tottenham. The result extended United’s unbeaten run to six matches but left them five points adrift of Chelsea and allowed Wolves to draw level with them.
The season’s fairytale story, Sheffield endured a rude restart awakening courtesy of a scoreless draw with lowly Villa and a 3-0 loss to Newcastle. The latter was their heaviest of just eight defeats this season and ended a five-match unbeaten run. But they remain just two points behind Man United in seventh.
Man United had won seven straight against Sheffield, until a thrilling 3-all draw at Bramall Lane earlier this season. Sheffield coughed up a 2-0 lead, but salvaged a point via Ollie McGurnie’s 90th-minute equaliser.
