The Hungarian Football Federation is cracking down on match-fixing by imposing tougher penalties against players, coaches, referees and others who are suspected of being involved in such cases.
The federation said on Tuesday that anyone being investigated by authorities in match-fixing probes will be banned from competition until the cases are settled.
The federation also said that anyone convicted of match-fixing will be banned from football-related activities for between one to 10 years, or for life if the case is severe enough.
The rule changes will take effect March 1.
Hungarian prosecutors so far have questioned 17 people suspected of being involved in an international match-fixing organisation. Seven of the suspects are under preliminary or house arrest.
