Hertha sack coach Skibbe after five games

Hertha Berlin on Sunday sacked coach Michael Skibbe after just five games in charge in the wake of his team’s 5-0 hammering at VfB Stuttgart in the German league.

The 46-year-old took over at the start of the year after Hertha dismissed Markus Babbel as coach just before Christmas, but under his stewardship Berlin lost all five matches with Skibbe at the helm.

His team’s 5-0 defeat at Stuttgart on Saturday leaves them just above the relegation zone and Skibbe, who coached the national side alongside Rudi Voeller from 2000 to 2004, was dismissed less than 24 hours later.

Skibbe is the sixth coach to be sacked from the Bundesliga this season after Babbel (Hertha), Marcus Sorg (Freiburg), Michael Oenning (Hamburg) and Holger Stanislawski, who was dismissed by Hoffenheim only last Thursday.
