Clint Dempsey scored his 22nd goal of the season for Fulham to clinch a 1-1 draw against Chelsea to prevent their west London rival from climbing into the Champions League places.

The United Sates attacking midfielder headed the equaliser in the 82nd minute from Damien Duff’s corner, with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill’s raised arms helping the ball into the net.

Frank Lampard put Chelsea in front on the stroke of halftime from the penalty spot for his 150th Premier League goal.

The draw means the Blues not only missed out moving into fourth place but that Newcastle rises above them into fifth spot after having beaten Bolton earlier on Monday.
