Wellington Phoenix captain Andrew Durante has been left bemused and frustrated at receiving his fifth yellow card of the season in Sunday’s 0-2 A-League loss to Brisbane Roar at Westpac Stadium.

Brisbane ended the Phoenix’s four-game winning streak and jumped into second place on the ladder, just five points astray of leaders Central Coast Mariners, with the Phoenix third a further two points back.

Besart Berisha’s clinical finish in the 41st minute and a superb strike from Mitch Nichols in the 80th secured the win in front of a vocal 13,000 Phoenix home crowd.

But Durante will miss next week’s clash with the Mariners, sitting out a week’s suspension after his 85th minute yellow card.

Midfielder Tim Brown will also be missing after picking up his fifth yellow of the season in the closing minutes of the game.

A disappointed Durante was unhappy at being booked for dissent after questioning a linesman’s call.

“That was my fifth yellow, and I was on the last game before it gets wiped,” he said.

“I think I’m smart enough not to say anything silly to the linesman. I had a word to him – I didn’t swear, I didn’t run up to his face, I wasn’t rude in any way.

“I think it’s ridiculous, especially as captain I’m allowed to talk to the linesman.

“It’s not just this game, it’s every game… It happens every week and it’s frustrating.”

Herbert shared his captain’s dismay, but said there was little that could be done.

“I can’t control what the referee’s going to do… At the end of the day we got beaten, and we have to accept that and move on.”

The only good news for Herbert is that right back Manny Muscat will be back on deck after missing Sunday’s match through suspension. It also looks likely that centre-back Ben Sigmund will be fit, after cramp forced him from the field late in the game.
