Everton manager Roberto Martinez has made his first notable move into the transfer market, signing striker Arouna Kone from his former club, Wigan.
The 29-year-old Ivory Coast international signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, although the BBC says Everton’s bid had triggered a STG6 million ($A10 million) release fee.
Kone scored 11 Premier League goals for Wigan before they were relegated last season, but they did win the FA Cup.
“Every player dreams of playing for a bigger club and coming here is a big step up for me,” Kone told the Everton official website.
“I hope to be able to fulfil all my dreams and get as far as I can through hard work. I hope to score as many goals as I can next season.
“For me it’s an honour to be back working with the manager once again. Last season he really helped me a lot.”
