You would have to say the Socceroos certainly didn’t get the rub of the green with the VAR decision in our 2-1 defeat to France.
Still, after many angles and views we were unsure, so I think the referee got it right live but then VAR steps in and it wasn’t an obvious error, so should have been waved away.
Our first game was important, but this second one against Denmark is crucial on the back of a loss.
We have to get something out of it to have a chance of qualification and for it to be in our hands.
We should be encouraged and confident after the game against France but need another big effort and victory which we are capable of.
To improve our attack, we should manage to have a little more control in areas where we can hurt teams in the final third.
By doing this, we can create and hopefully take the chances that produce themselves.
This will be a cautious game for the Danes and we need to take advantage of that.
If Christian Eriksen is getting on the ball too often in central areas then we could be in trouble and our lines are not compact enough.
We need to have him receiving ball in wide areas where we can manage much easier.
This is one part but Denmark, like us, are a strong unit and work well as a team.
Defensively, we held our own against top class opponents in the French and there’s no reason why we won’t do this again and possibly even grow from the first game.
Denmark do get bodies forward and have some positive players.
It’s important we starve the attackers from their supply, so midfield is really important as well.
Australia needs to find their feet early on and build into the game.
They need to be organized and brave and get the ball into decent areas.
If we do this well enough and defend well, we have a great opportunity to register a win.
I think Bert van Marwijk will make a change or two which you need to freshen things up in tournament football.
But I don’t see Tim Cahill or Daniel Arzani starting here and again think that they will be players that are used off the bench.
Bert will make that call and it’ll be interesting but I do expect a change or two.
I think Denmark will be cautious as they will feel they are so close to qualification.
We must be brave but stay composed in chasing the win.
Top flight football can be ruthless and mistakes are punished.
I think Denmark will wait for these moments with the Aussies taking the game to them.
Very intriguing.
