Paris St Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti has hailed the “significant success” over Ajaccio which enabled his side to reclaim the Ligue 1 leadership.
The big-spending Parisians beat the Corsican outfit 4-1 at the Parc des Princes on Sunday night to move a point clear of Montpellier at the summit.
Javier Pastore, Jeremy Menez, Guillaume Hoarau and Nene were all on the scoresheet for Ancelotti’s side with Yoann Poulard grabbing the sole consolation.
“This was a significant success which allowed us to regain the lead in Ligue 1,” said Ancelotti.
“In the first half the players were too individualistic but we finished the game well, scoring twice at the end.
“The results elsewhere this weekend were favourable to us so we had a little pressure going into the game but we are happy because we managed to get that top spot.”
PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi knows the title race will go to down to the wire.
“This is a great step for us as it widens the gap to teams like Lille, Marseille and Lyon which is a good sign,” he told the club’s official website www.psg.fr.
“But Montpellier will not let up until the end of the season. We will do everything to be champions.”
