The reigning champions have been handed an away to start their season, although it is likely going to be a very different feel than their last trip to Coopers Stadium.

After the Mariners emerged victorious 4-1 on aggregate in the Semi Final last season, both clubs have seen key contributors head for the exit door and some major question marks over whether they will be able to replicate their feats of 2022/23.

Central Coast lost Grand Final marquee marksman Jason Cummings plus key attackers Sam Silvera, Beni N’Kololo, however they had no dramas scoring in their most recent AFC Cup fixture, putting nine past Philipines side Stallion FC.

As for Adelaide, no player in the A-League will be a bigger loss for their team than Craig Goodwin, with the winger now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia.

In his absence, teen phenom Nestory Irankunda will take on a bigger role but expecting him to be able to carry the team from Round 1 is a bit much, and the Reds are undergoing a youth revolution which will likely see them taking a major step back this season.

The Mariners are in a better position heading into this game and look like the value play in this market.
