Wallabies star Kurtley Beale could play some of next month’s rugby Test series against Wales after his shoulder injury was found to be less serious than first thought.
Coach Robbie Deans on Monday expected fullback Beale to undergo surgery on the injury he suffered playing for the Melbourne Rebels against the Hurricanes on Saturday.
However, a Wallabies spokesman said on Tuesday Beale did not now require surgery and is expected to join the national squad after next Tuesday’s Test against Scotland while he continues his injury rehabilitation.
He said there was some hope that Beale might be able to play a part during the three-Test Welsh series later in June.
