Wallabies ready for Scots in Test: Faingaa

Queensland twins Saia and Anthony Faingaa believe limited preparation won’t be a problem for the Wallabies in their one-off Test against Scotland on Tuesday night in Newcastle.

With the Brumbies, Melbourne Rebels and NSW Waratahs all playing Super Rugby matches this weekend, Australia have only had Reds and Western Force players available for the full week of training and won’t name their team until Sunday.

However, the Faingaa brothers say players shouldn’t have a problem adjusting to combinations and calls at short notice.

Saia says it’s simply up to individuals to do their job on the field and the end results will come together.

“It’s not going to be that hard because the higher (level of rugby) you go, the easier it is, because most of the guys know what they have to do,” said hooker Saia at the Wallabies train-on squad session on Friday.

“You just have to worry about doing your own job and, for me personally, it’s about making sure my set piece is done well and my defence is done well and I’m doing all the simple things.”

The brothers say the 39 players chosen in the train-on squad for the June Tests against Scotland and Wales will only improve the healthy competitiveness and depth in the squad leading into the Rugby Championship, the Spring Tour and next year’s visit from the British and Irish Lions.

The hamstring injury suffered by James O’Connor at training earlier in the week will keep him out for up to six weeks – however he was already out of the June Tests with a lacerated liver.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll miss any Rebels matches after the Test break is over.

Wallabies skipper James Horwill will seek further scans on his torn hamstring in two weeks which will give a clearer indication of his return date.
