Jonny Wilkinson booted Toulon to a first European Cup rugby title Saturday, kicking 11 points in a 16-15 victory over Clermont-Auvergne in an all-French final in Dublin.
The former England flyhalf converted a try by compatriot Delon Armitage to give Toulon the lead for the first time in the match in the 66th minute, before contributing to a huge defensive effort in a frantic final 10 minutes at Lansdowne Road.
Clermont will wonder how they lost the game after moving 15-6 ahead by the 48th minute following tries by Napolioni Nalaga and Brock James in the space of seven minutes at the start of the second half.
However, Wilkinson cut the gap to 15-9 with his third straight penalty and then held his nerve to land the decisive conversion.
