South Africa’s doctor says he’s hopeful centre Francois Steyn will recover from an ankle injury in time for Saturday’s Rugby Championship Test against Australia.
Craig Roberts says Steyn has responded well to treatment after hurting his right ankle on Monday and he’s hoping the big No.12 will be able to do some training on Wednesday.
The Springboks also have concerns over lock Flip van der Merwe (calf), flanker Jacques Potgieter (groin) and winger Lwazi Mvovo (hamstring), who all sat out Tuesday’s workout along with Steyn.
Props Tendai Mtawarira and Coenie Oosthuizen and young five-eighth Johan Goosen – who could start his first Test this weekend – were all fit again after missing Monday’s session.
South Africa hosts Australia at Pretoria’s Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
