Scotland winger Rory Lamont had an operation in hospital in Edinburgh on Monday after breaking his leg during Sunday’s Six Nations loss to France at Murrayfield.
Team doctor James Robson said that the procedure was aimed at stabilising a fracture to his fibula.
“Rory is under the care of the orthopaedic surgeons at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary,” Robson said.
“We will issue a further bulletin tomorrow following this surgery.”
Glasgow back Lamont was lost to the game after 30 minutes following an awkward fall on his leg while contesting a restart.
He required lengthy treatment on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher.
Scotland lost the game 23-17, their third successive defeat of a Six Nations campaign that will conclude with difficult away fixtures against Ireland and Italy next month.
Lamont’s brother Sean was also in the wars as he suffered an abrasion to his right eye, while centre Graeme Morrison will undergo further assessment on a knee injury, fly-half Greig Laidlaw suffered suspected concussion, and scrum-half Mike Blair was left nursing a dead leg.
Robson also reported similar leg injuries to Blair’s for Glasgow forwards Richie Gray and John Barclay, and lock Jim Hamilton suffered leg bruising.
