Scotland winger Visser to miss Tests

Scotland winger Tim Visser is expected to be sidelined for up to four months after revealing on Tuesday he has sustained a broken leg.

The Dutch-born three-quarter, 26, picked up the injury during Edinburgh’s victory over Treviso in the Celtic League on Friday and had to be stretchered off.

“So the bad news is that I broke my Fibula and damaged some ligaments. Operation soon and hopefully be back in three to four months,” Visser wrote on his official Twitter account.

The news rules Visser out of Scotland’s forthcoming Test matches against Japan, South Africa and Australia, and casts doubt on his ability to participate in next year’s Six Nations.

“This is really disappointing news for Tim,” Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons told the club’s website.

“We’re very sorry he’ll miss the autumn Tests. He’s an asset for Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland. We all wish him a speedy recovery.”

A 41-man Scotland squad convened for a training camp in Glasgow on Monday, but Saracens back Duncan Taylor was absent due to abdomen and shoulder problems.

Scotland play Japan on November 9, South Africa on November 17 and Australia on November 23, with all three matches taking place at Murrayfield.
