Scotland claim Six Nations win over Italy

Blair Kinghorn has scored a hat-trick of tries as Scotland opened their Six Nations campaign with a 33-20 defeat of Italy.

Stuart Hogg and Chris Harris got Scotland’s other tries with Italy scoring three tries in the final quarter on Saturday through Guglielmo Palazzania, Edoardo Padovani and Angelo Esposito making the result look less comfortable than it was at Murrayfield.

Kinghorn’s first try came off a superb Finn Russell crossfield kick while Hogg was the provider for the winger’s second try to send Scotland into the break leading 12-3.

Russell was again the provider for Scotland’s third try after 47 minutes, sending a perfectly weighted grubber kick for Hogg to touch down while Kinghorn secured the bonus point for Scotland with his third try seven minutes later.

Harris went over for Scotland’s fifth try following a Josh Strauss overload with Italy’s late tries coming in a 10-minute period when Simon Berghan was in the sin bin.

The first round of the Six Nations concludes Saturday when defending champions Ireland welcome England at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
