Melbourne Rebels flanker Jarrod Saffy has been ruled out for the rest of the Super Rugby season.
Saffy had an MRI scan following the Rebels’ round nine fixture against the Waratahs which showed a bulging disc in his neck.
Since then Saffy has sought expert medical opinions and has been advised to sit out the remainder of the season, giving the injury time to heal.
Rebels coach Damien Hill was optimistic about the news, despite being without the 27 year old forward for the rest of the year.
“Jarrod will be a massive loss for the side, his transition into Super Rugby has been impressive and he is an integral part of the squad,” said Hill.
“There is always an obvious concern with these type of injuries, but we look forward to Jarrod returning for the 2013 season.”
