Rebels lose Jones for Waratahs Super clash

Wallabies lock Luke Jones is out of the Melbourne Rebels side to face defending champions the NSW Waratahs in their Anzac Day Super Rugby clash in Sydney.

In a blow to the Rebels’ hopes of collecting their third successive win for the first time in their history, workhorse and lineout captain Jones has been ruled out with concussion.

Jones developed symptoms after their win over the Brumbies in Canberra last weekend and the Rebels opted to leave him out of the team as a precautionary measure.

His place in the starting side for the ANZ Stadium match has been taken by Cadeyrn Neville, with Sam Jeffries coming onto the bench.

The Rebels have also made a change to their backline, with winger Dom Shipperley back into the starting line-up after his recovery from a hand injury.

He has replaced Tom English, who has dropped out of the 23-man squad.

“Dom is ready to go, and that’s a real positive for the team after he made such an impact in his first five matches for the Rebels,” said coach Tony McGahan.

McGahan was confident Neville would use his size to have a big impact, both around the field and at the set-piece.

“Cadeyrn is very experienced, and has been working hard to get a chance to start,” McGahan said.

“He will be determined to play well.”
