Rathbone joins Brumbies on one-year deal

Former Wallabies outside back Clyde Rathbone will join the Brumbies for the 2013 Super Rugby season.

The 26 Test veteran will return to the side he played 49 games for between 2003 and 2009 on a one-year deal announced on Thursday.

After overcoming a battle with depression and a raft of injuries, Rathbone, 31, will reunite with coach Jake White, under whom he captained South Africa to an under 21s world cup victory in 2002 before emigrating to Australia.

“It’s a new challenge for me to be in this position and to have another shot at playing professional rugby with the Brumbies,” Rathbone said.

“I’m not coming back to make up the numbers. Like all the players here I’ve got goals and objectives, I want to meet those targets in 2013 and contribute to this team.”
