Wallabies captain David Pocock is in danger of missing Australia’s Rugby Championship clash with world champions New Zealand in Auckland next week.
The openside flanker was hurt in Saturday night’s 27-19 loss to the All Blacks in Sydney, and Wallabies coach Robbie Deans said his skipper was getting a knee scan on Sunday.
Asked if Pocock could miss Saturday’s game at Eden Park, where Australia have not won since 1986, Deans said “that’s a possibility.”
He said halfback Will Genia would lead the side next Saturday if Pocock was unavailable.
Deans reported no other injury issues arising from Saturday’s game.
Asked if he would recall five-eighth Quade Cooper for next week’s game, Deans said “obviously he’ll be considered.”
Deans said he had no doubt Australia would perform better in Auckland – where they haven’t won in 26 years – than in Saturday’s mistake-ridden performance.
