New Wallaby dad Barnes back for Welsh Test

Wallabies five-eighth Berrick Barnes made it to Melbourne in time for his side’s Test match against Wales after a dash to Sydney for the birth of his son.

Barnes almost missed the second match in the three-Test series when he rushed home to Sydney late on Friday to be with his wife Bec as she gave birth to their first child, Archie.

He’s believed to have made it back to Melbourne just in time for their pre-match team meeting.

The 26-year-old NSW Waratahs playmaker made an inauspicious start when he kicked the ball out on the full from outside his team’s 22.

Wales then piled the pressure on the home side and, after eight phases, winger George North found a hole in defence to plant the ball across the line.

Barnes then played himself into the match and put his side on to the scoreboard with two successful penalty kicks.

The Wallabies can wrap up their three-Test series against the Six Nations champions after winning the opener 27-19 in Brisbane last week.
