New Wallabies skipper eyes off victory

Wallabies forward Ben Mowen says he feels a responsibility to navigate the side to victory after being appointed skipper for Saturday night’s clash with Argentina in Perth.

Mowen only made his Wallabies debut in June, but was elevated to the Test captaincy earlier this week when stand-in skipper Will Genia was relegated to the bench.

The 28-year-old back-rower described his elevation as a whirlwind experience, but says he’s been kept busy this week ensuring the side is primed for a good performance against Argentina.

“The biggest part of the job is making sure you give great clarity to the group around how we want to play and what we’re trying to execute,” Mowen said.

“To me, the role is purely about making it black and white for the side, so there is no grey going into the weekend.

“The responsibility is to help navigate the side to a victory.”

The Wallabies haven’t lost to Argentina since 1997, but they enter this weekend’s match low on confidence following four straight defeats.
