New rugby deals for six Chiefs players

The Chiefs have retained six players beyond this year’s Super Rugby campaign.

Former Blues utility back Gareth Anscombe and prop Ben Tameifuna have committed for next year, while four players have signed for two more seasons – outside back Andrew Horrell, lock Mike Fitzgerald, prop Pauliasi Manu and hooker Rhys Marshall.

Auckland five-eighth Anscombe is grateful for the faith shown in him by the 2012 champions after being discarded by the Blues.

He was snapped up by the Chiefs and has impressed playing out of position at fullback, scoring 163 points before missing their past three games with a foot injury.

“I am really enjoying the culture and the challenging environment which I believe has really helped grow my game and my confidence,” he said.
