Wallabies hooker Stephen Moore is undergoing scans in Perth after injuring his hamstring at training on Thursday.
The results will determine how serious the damage is and whether Moore will have to pull out of Saturday night’s Rugby Championship Test against South Africa at Patersons Stadium.
If Moore is scratched, Tatafu Polota-Nau will come into the starting team and Queensland hooker Saia Fainga’a will be included as a back-up on the reserves bench.
Prop Ben Alexander says if Moore is ruled out, it won’t disrupt the Wallabies preparations.
“No we’ve been practicing a lot at training with lots of different combinations, we very rarely pack more than a couple in a row with the same guys,” said Alexander.
“We’re always changing props, changing sides, changing hookers, so it shouldn’t cause any problem.
“If Taf gets a chance, we all know what he’s capable of.”
Moore is the latest in a long line of injury concerns for the Wallabies throughout the Rugby Championship.
In the lead-up to the Wallabies’ last-start loss to New Zealand in Auckland, Moore was promoted to the starting team after Tatafu Polota-Nau pulled up sore after the Thursday session.
Australia wouldn’t speculate on Moore’s chances of playing but do expect the results of the scans to come back later on Thursday.
If he plays, Moore will overtake Jeremy Paul as the most capped Wallabies hooker of all time.
