Michael Cheika backed to be next NSW Waratahs head coach

Former Randwick forward Michael Cheika is the raging favourite to be the new head coach of the NSW Waratahs with Sportingbet Australia posting him at $1.55.

Cheika is a clear favourite in a strong field to get the head coaching gig after Michael Foley sensationally walked out on the Tahs.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said there’s been a strong tip around for Cheika.

“All the early interest has been for Cheika to replace Foley”, Sullivan said.

“He’s got strong credentials and has been previously linked with just about every Super Rugby job in Australia including the Waratahs.”

Waratahs assistant coach Alan Gaffney is a solid second favourite at $2.35. Other prospects include Todd Louden ($11.00), Scott Bowen ($12.00) and Scott Johnson ($21.00).

Meantime, the Chiefs have been well supported into $1.40 to beat the Sharks ($3.00) in Saturday’s Super Rugby Final in New Zealand.
